This is my fourth lava lamp over the years, and the only one to be this cloudy out of the box. In fact, Id call it down right murky. It doesnt clear up with operation, either.
The forum at oozinggoo.com, which is a website dedicated to the lava lamp, has a February 2011 posting that states Lava Lite has acknowledged a manufacturing process error that causes the cloudiness. I assume that means future lights will be better in this regard, but current stock will presumably be problematic.
After reading these reviews, I decided to roll the dice and see if I could get a good lamp. I got a murky disgusting looking swamp bottle. My six year old daughter suggested PJs for my wife as a gift for Mothers Day. They were an instant hit with Mom. They look great on her, with an excellent fit and very soft material for comfort – no shrink or color fade after several washes. Just putting on the PJs gives my wife an immediate smile. She looks great as a superhero! Highly recommend.

This is an amazing deal. My wife said she saw set at Crate & Barrel or some such place for 4x the price. These are well made; well designed, sturdy, medium blue glazing is very nice on the wooden dining table. They came well packed so no broken dishes. I just ordered another set.
